It could take less than 4 minutes to change your mood when doing this fun exercise. It all depends on how much you commit to it.
Are you feeling shitty? Angry at someone? Feeling hopeless after scrolling through your social site feeds and seeing all the negativity in strangers’ lives?
How to avoid all that is a discussion for another time. For now, let’s get into a technique that I love as a dancer, to get you into a better mood.
Think of a song that you really love, that you haven’t listened to in a long time, that makes you happy. Something upbeat that you could bop your head to if you don’t have a lot of privacy right now. If you are at home or in a park or somewhere where it’s safe to let loose, then find a song that really uplifts you.
Turn the volume up. Turn it up! You’re the DJ of your own private party for one right now and your goal is to enjoy the music and move along to it.
So often as we get older, we find society trying to suppress our emotions, whether they be good or bad. Find a place where you can see yourself in the mirror and can allow yourself to be as silly or as goofy as you want. No one is around to see, you don’t have to worry about being judged right now (or at all, but again that’s a discussion for another time.)
Look at yourself and feel gratitude that you’ve made it this far through life. You are stronger than you realise and this is just a little reminder of how incredible you are as a human being.
Now move to the music, let your body guide you into movements as small or as big as you feel. It’s all up to you. This is your time to be who you are. Feel your passion, feel the music, appreciate all the talented people who came together to make this wonderful song all for your listening pleasure. So they can extend their happiness and good energy to someone like you.
